tive year, the Fresh Air
Society has appointed Bur-
ton Hurshe director of the
sports skills camp at Camp
Tamarack at Brighton,
Mich.
Hurshe received a BS de-
gree in education from
Wayne State and his MS
degree in education from
Eastern Michigan Univer-
sity and played varsity bas-
ketball in high school and at
Wayne State University.
For the past 14 years,
Hurshe has taught physical
education in the Southfield
Public Schools, seven years
in elementary school level
and six years in the middle
school level. He currently
teaches at the Thompson
Middle School in Southfield
and has coached both boys
and girls basketball at
Southfield High School and
boys basketball at Bir-
mingham Groves.
Hurshe is also an outdoor
games specialist who has
spent the past 13 years as a
program supervisor and
playground director for the
city of Southfield. In addi-
tion, he is a professional
High School Athletic Asso-
ciation referee for both foot-
ball and basketball and has
supervised youth basket-
ball programs at the Jewish
Community Center for the
past three years.
The two nine-day sports
skills camp programs at
Camp Tamarack are in-
tended for boys and girls age
8-10. Children receive per-
sonalized instruction each
morning and spend after-
noons and evenings in the
regular residential pro-
gram.
Openings are still avail-
able for the two sessions be-
tween June 26 and July 15.

Tickton talk

Jason H. Tickton, profes-
sor of music at Wayne State
University and music direc-
tor and organist at Temple
Beth El, will lecture on
"German-Jewish Music of
the 19th Century" at 3:30
p.m. Sunday at the main
Jewish Community Center.
Prof. Tickton's talk is
sponsored by the Holocaust
Memorial Center as part of
its "Jews of Germany Under
Prussian Rule" exhibit
which ends Wednesday.
Vocalists include soprano
Helen Rowin and alto An-
nette Chajes. Admission is
free, and the public is in-
vited.
