nation you consider a close
friend."
The queen, who was
born in Washington, said
Israel's actions against the
Palestinians were aimed at
driving them out of the
area.
Last week, former Is-
raeli Defense Minister Ariel
Sharon, during a speaking
tour of the United States,
called the Stinger missiles
an ideal terrorist weapon
and that Israel would be
their only target.
Rep. William S. Broom-
field (R-Mich.), the ranking
Republican on the Foreign
Affairs Committee, an-
nounced Tuesday that he
opposed the Stinger sale be-
cause "the U.S. should not
encourage the proliferation
of sophisticated weaponry
which potentially can fall
into the hands of terrorist
groups."

Lucy Dawidowicz
The record of Jewish his-
torical experiences in this
country, 1881 to 1981, by
Lucy Dawidowicz, pub-
lished by Holt Rinehart and
Winston under the title "On
Equal Terms," has just been
reissued as a paperback.
This important, U.S.
Jewish history record was
reviewed in The Jewish
News by Allen Warsen
(Nov. 12, 1982, p. 72), when
the book was first issued in
hardcover.
Commenting on a
number of the important
periods covered in this vol-
ume, Warsen gave special
emphasis to the element of
religious freedom in this
country summarized by Dr.
Dawidowicz:
"The United States was
the first country in the
world to give the Jews polit-
ical equality and religious
liberty, enabling them, as
no other nation-state had,
fully to exercise their rights
as citizens and, at the same
time, freely to observe their
religion, sustain their tradi-
tions and perpetuate their
culture."

Terror job

Tel Aviv (ZINS) — The
National Religious Party
newspaper, Hatzofe, re-
cently editorialized that the
presence of U.S. Marines in
Lebanon made little dif-
ference to Israel because the
Israeli soldier was still left
with the job of handling
Palestinian terrorists:
