Ktav, Holt List
Spring Books of
Jewish Interest

Among the spring titles
published by Ktav and Holt,
Rinehart and Winston are a
number of books on Jewish
topics or of general interest
to the Jewish reader.
The Judaic perspective on
child development is pre-
sented in The Jewish
Child: Halakhic Perspec-
tives" (Ktav) by Shoshana
Matzner-Bekerman. The
volume is divided into four
segments covering the life
of the child from conception
through adolescence.
In "Torah Therapy"
(Ktav), Rabbi Reuven P.
Bulka offers a collection of
insights from the weekly
biblical readings as well as
the portions devoted to spe-
cial occasions. Rabbi Bulka
is chairman of the Rabbini-
cal Council of America's
Family and Marriage
Committee.
Noted European scholar
Heszel Klepfisz gives an
analysis of Polish Jewry
from Hasidim to the
Holocaust in "Culture of
Compassion," also from
Ktay. The volume was
translated from an earlier
Yiddish edition and fea-
tures an introduction by
Curt Leviant.
"The Wandering Jew,"
a novel by Stefan Heym
from Holt, Rinehart and
Winston, is loosely based on
the biblical legend of Ahas-
verus. The novel's pro-
tagonist is Paul von Eitzen,
a student of Martin Luther
during the 15th Century.
The threat of nuclear ar-
mageddon is the topic of
"War Day" (Holt, Rinehart
and Winston), Whitley
Strieber and James Kunet-
ka's novel set in the not-
too-distant future.
In "The Intelligent Uni-
verse," also from Holt,
Rinehart and Winston, Fred
-Hoyle presents a new view
of creation and evolution.
Hoyle is the founder of the
Cambridge Institute of
Theoretical Astronomy and
a member of the American
Academy of Arts and Sci-
ences.
