LISTENING
POST
IT'S CALLED the State
Line Road . . . One side of
the street is Kansas City,
Kansas . . . the other Kan-
sas City, Missouri . . . Fran
and Les Ball live on the
Kansas side . . . in Stanley
to be exact . . . on a huge ac-
reage home with horses and
land galore . . . This is
where I spent a pleasurable
weekend recently, with son
Scott, who came in from
University of Texas in Au-
stin; Les, Fran and their
three wonderful children,
Jason, 13; Kristen, 6; and
Heather, 6 (twins).
It was a fine weekend .. .
so very enjoyable . . . with
Les, the stepson I proudly
Bar Mitzva'd . . . now
chairman of the board and
chief executive officer of
Macy's Midwest . . . Fran
(Glicken), lass he married
here, is still the pleasant,
congenial and warm gal
who has given Les the
greatest gift of all . . . three
marvelous children.
Scott has grown to be such
a fine young man . . . He
graduates college in May
. . . with marital plans for
June 10 on a ranch outside
San Antonio . . . to sweet
Bonnie Sue Buck.

ing weekend of July 27-29

Novi . . . Call Anne Gonte
Silver, ad book chairperson,
647-3663.
Reservations are coming
in fast for the biggie reunion
. . . For tickets, call Mary
Sirotkin Lewis, 645-9030
. . . Will be kind of reunion it
should be . . . with ex-grads
able to lounge and re-
minisce or whatever with
beautiful memories ex-
changed of yesteryears.
MAIL DEPT.... "I can't
thank so many wonderful
people e,nough for their
kindnesses during my re-
cent illness. It's so great to
know all these persons
cared. A million thanks to
everyone!"

BELATED CON-
GRATS . . . to Bernard
Schlussel, former president
of Hannah Schloss Old Tim-
ers, and Louis Marshall
Bnai Brith Lodge . . . on his
80th birthday.
MUST HAVE BEEN
AROUND 50 years ago
when I got my Sunday
News, Times and Free Press
papers to deliver . . . from
Abe Terman on corner of
12th and Gladstone .. .
Every week, if I was early
enough, there'd be a wagon
around . . . if not it was car-
rying them in bags . . . and
returning for more . . . Abe
always said he'd get me a
wagon, but it never came
. . . Little package arrived
for me recently . . . and Abe
Terman, now living in West
Palm Beach, had finally .
kept his word . . . it was a
little toy red wagon.

Weber at Michigan Eye In-

Sherman . . . on his 70th
birthday.
COL. ARTHUR BE-
CKER, director of South-
field's civil defense, won
nine national awards at an-
nual United States Civil
Defense Council Confer-
ence in Birmingham, Ala.
. . . This is more awards
than any other civil defense
director in the country,
promoting his responsibil-
ity for bringing national
recognition to Southfield
. . . In 1982, he won 14
awards, but winning this
one was even more gratify-
ing as the rules were-
changed allowing only one
entry for each of the nine
different categories.
BEAUTY HINTS for
gals . . . by Tamara
Friedman.
What can I do to prevent
smearing and smudging of
eyeliner pencil?
A Q-tip dipped in translu-
cent powder lightly dusted
over the liner will act as a
sealer and prevent smudg-
ing.
With spring and sum-
mer coming, is there any
way to reduce my cellu-
lite? (body toxin).
Body wraps (bandages
soaked in minerals) in con-
junction with a healthy diet
and exercise is the best way
to combat cellulite.
HY LEWIS WRITES .. .
"I remember when Social
Security in the old days
meant forgetting to lock the
front door to our house on
Frederick St. and not worry-
ing about it."
Idleness is the sepulchre
of a living man.
