Self-Defeat
in Lebanon
TEL AVIV (ZINS) — Ac-
cording to an editorial in
Yediot Ahronot, the U.S.
lost out to the Soviet Union
in the superpower struggle
in Lebanon because it re-
fused to take an activist
role.
"If the U.S. from the very
start had advocated a policy
of forming a tight-knit bloc
of Lebanon, Israel and the
United States, then its suc-
cess in Lebanon would have
been assured," the editorial
said.
