Doctor of Divinity Degree
Awarded to Dr. Gutmann
Rabbi Joseph Gutmann,
art history professor at
Wayne State University,
will be awarded the Doctor
of Divinity degree from He-
brew Union College-Jewish
Institute of Religion at
Founders' Day exercises
Wednesday at the Cincin-
nati school.
Dr. Gutmann is marking
the 25th anniversary of his
ordination at Hebrew
Union College.
The Wurzburg, Germany,
native has combined both
careers of art history and
rabbinics into his life's
work. Prior to Dr. Gut-
mann's position at WSU in
1969, he was research
analyst and interpreter,
U.S. Strategic Bombing
Survey, Europe, World War
II, 1943-1946; associate pro-
fessor of Jewish art, HUC,
Cincinnati; adjunct profes-
sor of art, University of Cin-
cinnati; adjunct curator,
Detroit Institute of Arts;
interim associate rabbi,
Temple Beth El; and rabbi,
Cong: Solel.

Troy Jewish Congrega-
tion will have a day-long
family Purim celebration
March 18 at Camp
Tamarack, beginning at 10
a.m.
The celebration will fea-
ture Purim carnival booths,
a parade and outdoor activi-
ties. Hot chocolate and cof-
fee will be served, but
families should bring their
own picnic lunches.
The event is open to
members of the congrega-

Chabad Torah Center of

will be a Megilla reading,
entertainment, refresh-

A full weekend of Purim
events will take place at the
Grand Rapids Chabad
House, 1910 Michigan NE
from March 16 to 19. The
activities will begin at 6:30
p.m. March 16 with the
reading of the Megilla.
Children will come in cos-
tumes and vie for prizes.
On March 17, the chil-
dren from the Talmud
Torah class will have a
sleepover at the Chabad
House. The nursery chil-
dren will see a special
Purim play at the Chabad
House on March 18 at 1 p.m.
A city-wide Purim dinner at
the Marriott Inn in Grand
Rapids will be held on
March 18 at 6 p.m. The
Piamento Orchestra from
New York will entertain.
