The discovery and iden- tification of the remains stirred anger against the Orthodox establishment and posed something of a mystery. Police have applied to the courts for permission to open the grave to determine if a body is buried there. Mrs. Engelovitz was the wife of an elderly, observant Jew. Several months after her burial, unidentified religious informants com- plained to the local rabbi- nate that she had not been converted to Judaism in her native Romania according to strict Orthodox practices. The rabbinate ordered the body exhumed and re- buried elsewhere but the order was blocked by a Sup- reme Court injunction ob- tained by the woman's fam- ily. The apparent removal of the body by unknown parties was denounced by Israel's Chief Rabbis, Interior Minister Yosef Burg and by the Chief Rabbi - of Rishon LeZion who had originally de- manded re-burial. They agreed that removal of the body was a "despica- ble act" which cast a shadow over Orthodox Jewry. But the rabbinate said it would not allow the remains to be reburied in the Jewish cemetery. Mrs. Engelovitz's daughter, Adina Harpaz, said she would "fight to the death" to have her mother re-buried in the original graVe. "When I asked the rabbis where my father should be buried when the time comes — next to his wife, they told me 'that's his business!' " she said on a television interview. 6ymphony8tim Nauru Annis DISCOUNT RECORDS • TAPES • ETC. 9 MILE W. "Words have lost their meaning" in the UN, he said, where "the Soviet Union, Iraq and Syria are called peace-loving na- tions." The UN "has become the focal point of international terrorism," Blum declared. In the General Assembly, "people can say with impun- ity what they couldn't say elsewhere." He cited as an example the description of Israel as a "cancerous tumor" used by the repre- sentative of one Arab coun- try. Blum was adamant, how- ever, in his belief that Israel must remain in the UN, de- spite the abuses that it endures there. "Giving up membership is tantamount to giving up our place in the international community," he said.
