Recipe Purim is a favorite time for children's parties. Since party treats always seem extra special when they're homemade, this is a great time to teach children to make some just-for-fun foods. Caramel Popcorn Balls are easy kids' favorites that even beginners can make with the help of an adult "cooking coach." When Caramel Popcorn Balls are firm, children can wrap them in plastic wrap or colored cellophane. For a festive touch, insert wooden stick "handles" into some of the balls, then wrap and tie with colored ribbon. You will need: 28 Kraft caramels 2 tbsps. water 2 quarts (8 cups) popped corn, salted Take out: saucepan measuring spoons Wooden spoons Large bowl Rubber scraper Large plate or platter Unwrap caramels. Place caramels and water in sauce- pan. Cook over low heat, stir- ring occasionally until caramels are melted and sauce is smooth. Place popped corn in large bowl. Pour sauce over popped corn. Toss lightly with two spoons until popped corn is well coated. Lightly moisten hands with cold water. Using hands, shape popped corn mixture into 6 balls. Let stand until firm on plate or platter. Yield: 6 popcorn balls. VARIATION: Prepare recipe following steps 1 and 2. In- stead of shaping popcorn mix- ture into balls, spread mixture on greased cookie sheet. Let stand until firm, then break apart.
