ADL Applauds
Italian Move
on Arab Boycott

NEW YORK — The
Anti-Defamation League of
Bnai Brith (ADL) praised
the president of the
Italian-Arab Chamber of
Commerce last week for
terminating the chamber's
issuance of certificates
which "ensure and
legitimize the Arab boycott
of Israel."
In a cablegram signed by
Abraham H. Foxman,
ADL's associate national
director and director of the
league's International Af-
fairs Division, the agency
congratulated Vito Scalia, a
member of the Italian parli-
ament, for his "forthright-
ness" in ending the practice
and his denunciation of the
chamber he heads for expos-
ing Italy to charges of vio-
lating international free
trade agreements.

pilot project to woo some 40
Israeli teachers to Israel
from the United States was
launched last month with
ads in New York's Israel
Shelanu and Hamevaker
newspapers, according to
Zohar Gindel, director of the
Center for Orientation to
Development Towns.
Gindel said that while the
center was helping 2,000
teachers from central Israel
to relocate in development
towns every year, it has not
been successful in attract-
ing instructors in skilled
fields from the U.S. The
academic emigrants will be
invited on a "scouting mis-
sion" to interested Israeli
schools.

JERUSALEM (JNI) —
The number of Israelis who
chose to emigrate from the
country fell significantly in
1983, the third consecutive
year that the figure de-
creased, according to De-
puty Minister Dov
Shilansky, the government
official in charge of fighting
emigration.
The 1983 yerida figure
fell to 2,600 Shilansky re-
ported. In 1980, more than
30,000 Israelis left the
country and settled
elsewhere.
