The more than 400 Ameri-

plenary session of the Na-

Relations Advisory
COUNCIL (NJCRAC) were
told this week that many of
the economic and social
programs the NJCRAC has
long favored will have to be
cut even more in order to re-
duce the budget deficit
which is nearing $200 bil-
lion.
But Sen. Robert Dole
(R-Kan.) said he believes
Congress will act in a bi-
partisan manner to take
some type of action to begin
(12-piece)
reducing the deficit. If we

next 12 months, he said.
Mon.

Alice Rivlin, a Democrat

and former Congressional
budget director, agreed,
saying that if the deficit was
not reduced and interest
rates lowered, then even
with economic growth the
poorest people in the coun-
try will continue to suffer.

2 IDF Soldiers
Killed in Ambush
Near Nabatiya •

TEL AVIV (JTA) — Two
Israeli soldiers were killed
in south Lebanon Tuesday
when their two-jeep patrol
was ambushed several
miles north of Nabatiya. A
bazooka shell fired from a
concealed position at the
roadside exploded between
the two vehicles. The first
jeep continued but the sec-
ond was raked by small
arms fire, killing its two oc-
cupants.
Heavy army reinforce-
ments arrived. A search of
the area yielded a rocket
propelled grenade launcher,
bazookas and grenades.
Tuesday's incident was in
an area that had been quiet
until an Israeli soldier was
killed a week ago. It
brought the death toll of
soldiers and other Israeli
security personnel since the
start of the war in Lebanon
in June, 1982 to 571; 3,300
have been wounded.

Jordan Ends
Links to Libya

NEW YORK — The
kingdom of Jordan has se-
vered diplomatic links with
Libya following the destruc-
tion of the Jordan Embassy
in Tripoli by rioters last
week.
Jordan says Libya is try-
ing to disrupt its contacts
with Egypt and undermine
Jordan's peace efforts in the
Middle East.
