New Pro-Israel Brigade
Fights PLO in Lebanon

BEIRUT — The Southern
Lebanese Army, an Israeli-
supported unit that evolved
from the militia force led by
Maj. Saad Haddad, has
joined the fight against
Palestine Liberation
Organization terrorists who
are seeking to re-infiltrate
the southern region of
Lebanon, according to the
New York Times.
The lsraeli-backed group
consists of 1,500 soldiers,
divided into armored, infan-
try and artillery divisions,
the Times reported.

Shiite Moslems form
about 20 percent of the new
brigade, the Times said.
They join because they are
the poorest section of the
population between the
frontier and the Awali river
and they fear the return of
the PLO, the Times re-
ported. The region is popu-
lated by approximately
520,000 Shiites, 200,000
Christians, 110,000 Sunnis,
55,000 Druze and 80,000
Palestinians.

Justice is truth in action.

Michele Zeltzer, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Zelt-
zer of West Bloomfield, will
share her Bat Mitzva with
Inna Taiberg of Ukrainian,
SSR, USSR, in absentia at
Shabat services at 8:45 a.m.
Saturday at Cong. Beth Ab-
