Israeli singing star
Chava Alberstein will ap-
pear in the next program of
the Celebration of Jewish
Arts at 8 p.m. March 3 at the
Lydia Mendelssohn Theater
in Ann Arbor.
Ms. Alberstein is a six-
time winner of the Kinor
David — Israel equivalent
of the Grammy — prize as
singer of the year. She sings
in Yiddish and Hebrew.
She has appeared in con-
cert throughout the United
States and the world and
her Ann Arbor appearance
will kick off her 1984 North
American tour.

Emanuel Rackman,
president of Israel's Bar-
Ilan University, will host a
reception Wednesday at the
Harvard Club in honor of J.
Morton Davis, the noted
Jewish-American financier,'
philanthropist, and owner
of D. H. Blair investment
bankers, celebrating the re-
cent publication of his book,
"Making America Work
Again."
A high school dropout,
Davis went back to school at
night for his diploma and
then worked his way
through Brooklyn College,
supporting himself and his
growing family before
graduating magna cum
laude.
After graduating from
the Harvard Business
School with honors, Davis
joined the brokerage firm of
Shields and Co. and left
there to become one of 18
partners at D. H. Blair. Now
he is the sole owner of the
firm.
