I
looked familiar . . . and
Mort asked owner where
they came from . . . He told
of finding them in an old
warehouse . . . that they
were from the old Brass Rail
on Adams . . . The statues
look like new, says Mort.
THEY SAY that if
there's good food and good
service, makes little dif-
ference how hard to find or
other inconveniences . . .
-Fact is true about places
like The Raven, on Green-
field and north of 12 Mile
. . . opened by Harry and
wife Sandy Sulolli . . . with
excellent hostess Julie
Quinn.
The Raven is not hard to
find, but parking and
entrance is in the rear .. .
This has been a detriment
for restaurants not worth
the bother . . . but The
Raven isn't one of them ..
It is very clean, has fast, ef-
ficient service, a large menu
of good breakfast, lunch and
dinner items at moderate
prices . . . plus all-hours
specials . . . It opened last
November . . . at site of
former Minnie's Seafood in
Southfield.
BAGEL BASKET Deli
in West Bloomfield Plaza
has finally been sold . . . It
will open in April as a
Greek-style restaurant.
DRAKE SUMMIT
Shopping Place on Drake
and Walnut Lake Rd. is
under new ownership .. .
Ron Helin of WH Invest-
ments, with offices in the
area . . . Former owner is
not affiliated in any way.
Among those already
opened is probably one of
the better pizzerias around
. . . clean and a lot of
homemade cooking . . .
Hard-working very person-
able couple Bob and Phyllis
Fischetti opened their
Mama Gallo's (that's her
maiden name) on Jan. 8 .. .
and have been getting noth-
ing but raves.
It's not a big place . . . cute
and intimate . . . seating
only 36 . . . Round and
square pizza with brewed
spices (one of the few that do
this) for its sauce, pasta and
ribs, chicken, salads,
homemade meatball sand-
wich, Italian sausage sub-
marine (big in New York)
sauteed in olive oil, etc.
Bob and Phyllis batter
their own fish, and
people have many good
words to say about the
deep-fried cod.
Most of the business is
carry-out . . . with counter
half-brick and half-stucco,
overhanging wooden eaves
. . . Tiffany-style lamps are
over the tables . . . There are
no waitresses . . . Families
who eat there wait on them-
selves and enjoy the relax-
ing friendliness.
Bob is from New York and
Phyllis a Detroiter . . .
People are already saying
the food reflects their their
pleasing personalities ...
They formerly owned
Dante's Carry-Out Pizzeria
from 1972 until seven
months ago .. . and do a lot
of outside catering.
.,M4rAa-
is 91r;
. . . Starting March 14, it
will be open for lunch Mon-
day through Friday at 11
a.m. . . . People in the region
are glad Bob and Phyllis
have come to their area .. .
and others are finding it
well worth the drive.
Already opened at the
Drake Summit Shopping
Place are ... Franklin
Kosher Meats, Louis
Creative Jewelers, La
Coupe Beauty Salon,
Video Electronics,
Jeanette's Attractions,
Sand Castle, Peerless
Cleaners, Michigan Na-
tional Bank, Drake Den-
tal Group and!Condo Va-
cations.
Opening soon are Drake
Summit Food Store . . .
which will include Lou
