Labor Party
Would Win,
Poll Reveals

■ %.

34..‘, Vf•

TEL AVIV (JTA) — A
public opinion poll pub-
lished in Maariv last week
shows an absolute majority
for the opposition Labor
party if elections were held
this month.
The poll, taken by Modiin
Ezrachi Survey, gives Labor
1 seats in the 120-member
nesset, 24 seats more than
the incumbent Likud which
would get only 37 seats.
This would theoretically
allow the Labor Alignment
to form a government on its
own. But the poll indicated
that it would have several
"natural" allies, including
one seat for Shulamit
Aloni's Ratz Party and two
for the Shinui Party.
The National Religious
Party would drop one seat
from its present six to five,
while the Agudat Israel (4),
Tami (3), and Tehiya (3)
would hold on their present
number of mandates.

TEL AVIV (ZINS) — A
Soviet Jewish immigrant
who is now a. professor at
Ben-Gurion University be-
lieves that not one in 100
Soviet• Jews would come to
Israel if the Soviet Union
opened its gates.
Yirmiyahu
Prof.
Branover said Soviet Jews
lack Jewish roots, and he es-
timates the 800,000 to
900,000 Soviet Jews assimi-
lated in Russia during the
last 25 years.

WASHINGTON — The
Commerce Department has
accused Rep. Stewart
McKinney (D-Conn.) of vio-
lating laws prohibiting U.S.
citizens or corporations for
aiding the Arab boycott of
businesses tied to Israel. If
convicted, McKinney could
be fined up to $10,000.
The charges stem from an
incident in which the Con-
gressman furnished
boycott-related information
to the government of
Kuwait on behalf of the
Perkin Elmer Corp., a man-
ufacturer of high technol-
ogy equipment headquar-
tered in his district, accord-
ing to the Commerce De-
partment. McKinney
claims that he had cleared
the information with a
