Raskas noted that 32 states have already petitioned Congress to call a convention, with only two more states required to make it mandatory. Accord- ing to the Bnai Brith leader, the question may soon be put to voters in California and Montana, and is cur- rently before the state legis- latures in Michigan, Ken- tucky and Vermont. Bnai Brith will concen- trate on those five and, at the same time, support ef- forts in other states to withdraw petitions al- ready submitted to Con- gress. Although, said Raskas, the matter is not a "Jewish issue," Jews, as a minority "must be vigilant to possible constitutional changes which could weaken the protections we and others rely on."
