John Loeb Jr.

CHARLESTON, S.C. —
Ambassador John L. Loeb
Jr. will be the first recipient
of the annual Humanita-
rian Award of the Hebrew
Benevolent Society of Char-
leston, the oldest Jewish
charitable society in the
U.S.
Founded in 1784, the
society will cite Loeb for his
"achievements and contri-
butions to society and the
nation," said Dr. Charles H.
Banov, president of the He-
brew Benevolent Society.
Loeb, a former partner of
Loeb, Rhoades & Co., was
the U.S. Ambassador to De-
nmark from ,1981 to 1983
and served as a U.S. repre-
sentative to the 38th Ses-
sion of the United Nations
General Assembly.
