with the company, he be-
came president of ABC
Films in 1959. In 1974, he
left ABC to purchase the
Northern Group of Ameri-
can Broadcasting Company
Theaters new headquarters
in Century City where he
operates thrq of his modern
movie houses.
Plitt was the first Ameri-
can paratrooper to land on
the Normandy beach on
D-Day of 1944. Later, the
U.S. Army colonel captured
the notorious anti-Semite,
Julius Streicher, who was
convicted as Nazi war crim-
inal and hanged in Nurem-
berg.
Throughout his adult life,
Plitt has given much of his
time and wealth to further
worthile causes such as the
United Jewish Appeal, Is-
rael Bonds, Variety Inter-
national and Cerebral
Palsy, in addition to Shaare
Zedek Hospital.

MADELINE KAHN, the
star of the television series
"Oh Madeline" and Golden
Globe nominee, was re-
cently introduced to the
members of the Hollywood
Foreign Press Association.
The red-haired comedienne
first came to our attention
with her appearance as the
"other" woman, opposite
Barbra Streisand and Ryan
O'Neil, in the farcical
movie, "What's Up Doc," fol-
lowed by an Oscar nomina-
tion in "Paper Moon," both
pictures directed by Peter
Bagdanovich.
Ms. Kahn won her second
Academy nomination in
Mel Brooks' madcap "Blaz-
ing Saddles" and partici-
pated in other Brooks'
movies such as "Young
Frankenstein" and the con-
troversial "History of the
World — Part I."
A New York resident till
her television series came
along, Ms.Kahn was born in
Boston, doing classical sing-
ing in Hofstra productions
at the university in
Hempstead, Long Island
and earned an Equity card
as a chorus girl in a City
Center revival of "Kiss Me,
Kate." Appearing regularly
at New York's "Upstairs at
the Downstairs Club," she
was spotted by David Mer-
rick and signed for a small
role in "How Now, Dow
Jones?" Her first real break
on Broadway came in "New
Faces of 1968."

MOISHE ROSEN-
FELD, who had a small
part in "Sophie's Choice,"
portrays the lead in "Die
Brunem" (The Well), the
first Yiddish-language pic-
ture made in a decade. The
film is subtitled and runs 30
minutes. It was made by
27-year-old David Green-
wald who is the son of Au-
schwitz survivors. It was
their story that inspired the
young man.
