CROISSANTS,
CROISSANTS is name of
new place soon to open in
Southfield Plaza, Southfield
and 12 1/2 Mile ... in the
ng, two
former Sears buildi
doors from coming Farmer
Jack biggie.
It'll be opened by Ron
Wolfe and Al Blum . . . with
16 varieties of croissants
(all natural - no
preservatives) ... sand-
ead or
wiches on French br
croissant, Perrier water,
about half-dozen teas and
regular lunching staples.
Seating will be for 25 in a
French cafe atmosphere .. .
with everything, including
the croissants, made in
front of customers . . . Ron's
and Al's new operation will
be the pilot for a chain of
Croissants, Croissants.
A SECOND IRVING'S
DELI will open sometime
in March ... at Crooks Rd.
just south of Big Beaver .. .
At this writing, the 1,700
square foot spot will be only
a carry-out ... with sand-
wiches special soups daily
(plus chicken noodle) .. .
and goodies like hot bagels,
lox, cream cheese, knishes,
complete carry-out and tray
catering . . . But seating is
also expected for about 50
people.
It will be operated by Irv-
ing and Rose Guttman's
three children, Carol, Jerry
and Seymour . . . Irving and
Rose will continue to run
their successful restaurant
on Greenfield, north of 11
Mile . . . opened back in Sep-
tember of 1974.
NOTHING PRETEN-
TIOUS ... nothing to talk
about in decor . . . just an
ordinary . . . or so it would
seem, Middle East dining
operation . . . Even the
name doesn't sound like one
of the few places where
truly authentic homemade
Lebanese cuisine can be
gotten . . . It's Mr. Donnie's
on Dix Rd., between Wyom-
ing and Vernor . . . seating
about 60 in one room and
another 35 at another area
.. owned by Shirley and
D
. onnie Abess.
One part of it was for-
merly a shoe store and the
dining room we were in,
previously a Chinese laun-
dry . . . Then seven years
ago, Shirley and Donnie, a
couple of real nice down-to-
earth people, took over .. .
in the homey atmosphere
. . . certainly not the kind
you would expect such won-
derful Middle East food .. .
But Shirley does 60 percent
of the cooking . . . real au-
thentic Lebanese dining
enjoyed by so many . . .
Jews and non-Jews alike
. . . at amazingly low prices
.. with folks never know-
ing who they'll bump into
when there.
