Ex-Inmate Presents Uniform
to Holocaust Center Here

Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps,
presents Holocaust Memorial Center Director Rabbi
Charles Rosenzveig with the uniform Lewkowicz
wore while a prisoner at Buchenwald. The uniform
will be preserved and kept on display at the memorial
center. Anyone wishing to donate similar items,
documents, pictures or other materials related to the
Holocaust and Jewish life in pre-war Europe can con-

`Jews of Latin America' Topic
of NCJW, Midrasha Series

The National Council of
Jewish Women and the
Midrasha College of Jewish
Studies will co-sponsor a
two-part series on "Who Are
the Jews of Latin America?"
Feb. 16 and 23 at the NCJW
offices, 16400 W. 12 Mile,
Southfield. Coffee and cake
will be served at 12:30 p.m.
and the lecture will begin at
1 p.m.
The series will be pre-
sented by Dr. Judith Laikin
Elkin, author of "Jews of
Latin American Republics."
Dr. Laikin Elkin received
her BA degree from the
University of Michigan and
a master's degree in inter-
national relations at
Columbia University. She
later was commissioned a
U.S. foreign service officer
and posted to Southeast
Asia. Her experiences there
are recollected in her book
"Krishna Smiled."
After returning to
America, Dr. Laikin
Elkin served as regional
director for the American
Jewish Congress, wrote a
column of foreign news
analysis for the Detroit
Free Press and taught
political science at
Wayne State University.

Subsequently she taught
at Albion College.
She received a PhD de-
gree from the University of
Michigan. She is currently
the editor of Rackham Re-
ports, a journal of the U-M
graduate school. She is the
founder and president of the
Latin American Jewish
Studies Association.
