Jews from Arab countries view schools as a vital means to the integration of their children into the fast- paced technology geared Is- raeli society, according to Eliezer Shmueli, Director- - General of the Israel Minis- ter of Education and Cul- ture at a plenary session of the Hadassah Israel Educa- tion Services. Mr. Shmueli said that Hadassah has made special contributions to the educa- tion and absorption of Is- rael's educationally 'special' people. The country's early educators were mainly graduates of a European system that sharply differ- entiated between uni- ' veristy track and vocational trade schools. Hadassah in its secondary schools, ad- vanced the concept of a "comprehensive education" where academic and voca- tional courses were corn- bined and as a result, voca- tional training took on a higher luster of accom- plishment. Later the Hadassah Community College — Is- rael's first junior college was another step in extend- ing opportunities. In addition to the schools, Mr. Shmueli singles out the Hadassah Vocational Guid- ance Institute for special mention as that unique agency in Israel which has done so much to help absorb new immigrants, assist vet- erans and industry in job placement, and counseling students for careers. "Hadassah has faithfully followed the course of 'prac- tical Zionism laid out for it by Henrietta Szold," he con- cluded, "It has met the needs of the individual as well as those of a young na- tion. It has been a wonderful partnership between Israel and the women of Hadas- sah!" • IL. ■ • • • 4, • ■ •• LINDA BERLIN, Life Mem- bership Chairman MARTHA W.
