CLEVELAND — Depor-
tation hearing for John
Demjanjuk, a Nazi concen-
tration camp guard who was
stripped of his U.S. citizen-
ship, resumed on Monday in
Cleveland after a three-
month delay.
Demjanjuk, who was
called "Ivan the Terrible" at
Treblinka where he oper-
ated the gas chambers, is
claiming that he would be
executed in the Soviet
Union if he is deported. A
native of the Ukraine, De-
mjanjuk says he is under
four death sentences in the
Soviet Union.
U.S. attorneys presented
a letter from the Soviet gov-
ernment stating that De-
mjanjuk has not been con-
victed of any crimes in the
Soviet Union.
