Argentina Releases 33 on List

NEW YORK (JTA) —
Thirty-three Argentine
prisoners, whose names ap-
pear on a list compiled by
the Anti-Defamation
League of Bnai Brith, have
been given their freedom by
the new Buenos Aires gov-
ernment.
The ADL's Argentine
Prisoner Project has sought
information on 900 missing
persons, out of thousands of
"desaparecidos" who disap-
peared under Argentina's

former military dictator-
ship.

Argentine publisher Jacobo
Timerman returned to
Buenos Aires this week to
recover his assets taken by
the military junta and to
hunt for those who tortured
him while he was held in
prison without charge.

NEW YORK (JTA) —
Abel Kiviat, who won the
Silver Medal in the 1912
Olympics when he finished
second in the 1,500-meter
race in Stockholm and who
was recently elected to the
International Jewish Sports
Hall of Fame, will once
again share in some Olym-
pic glory.
Kiviat, 91, will be one of
many torch bearers who
will carry the traditional
torch from New York City to
Los Angeles prior to the
start of the 1984 Olympic
Games in July.
