The Union of Councils for Soviet Jews reported in Washington that Shcharansky's mother, Ida Milgrom, visited Shcharansky Jan. 5. Her son is suffering severe heart and chest pains. Despite ap- peals from Milgrom and Shcharansky's wife, Avital, Soviet authorities have re- fused to hospitalize him. The UCSJ has asked that letters of protest be sent to Soviet Ambassador Anatoly Dobrynin in Washington, to U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz, and - to Sergei P. Burenkov, Minis- ter of Health, 3 Rakhmanovsky Perevlok, Moscow, RSFSR, U.S.S.R.
