Teenage Suicide Problem
Covered in UAHC Magazine

NEW YORK — The grow-
ing problem of teenage
suicide and the ways in
which informed parents,
friends, rabbis and teachers
can help prevent such
tragedies is the topic dis-
cussed in the current issue
of Keeping Posted, the bi-
monthly magazine pub-
lished by the Union of
American Hebrew Congre-
gations.
Suicide is the leading
cause of death among ado-
lescents today, according to
the magazine. There are
6,500 teenage suicides in
the United States each year.
This represents an increase
of 300 percent since 1955.
The magazine includes a
short story by Joy Weinberg
and an article by Rae Hen-
nessey, founder of Coping
with Suicide, a self-help
group based in New Or-
leans. An interview with
Rabbi Daniel Roberts of
Cleveland is also featured.
