UNITED NATIONS
(JTA) — On the eighth eve-
ning of Hanuka, David
Horowitz, a past president
of the UN Correspondents
Association, hosted a
Hanuka party for about 70
colleagues, diplomats and
other friends in the UN
Correspondents Club.
Among the diplomats
present were Panama's de-
puty ambassador to the UN,
Abadi-Abadi, and Costa Ri-
ca's deputy ambassador,
Emilio Castro de Barish.
The current UN Correspon-
dents Association
president, Pakistani jour-
nalist Iftikhar Ali, wel-
comed the guests.
Israel's Ambassador
Yehuda Blum spoke to the
gathering about the
spiritual aspect of Hanuka,
the meaning of the word
Hanuka, and stressed re-
dedication rather than the
military victory of the Mac-
cabees.

Cantor
Joseph
Molovany of the Fifth
Avenue Synagogue re-
cited the blessings over
the candles. Horowitz,
who is the editor of the
World Union Press and
United Israel Bulletin,
spoke of the importance
of faith in the history of
Judaism.

CARROTS

LONDON (JTA) — Israel
and Britain began a week of
talks here Tuesday on ways
of increasing cooperation
between industrial com-
panies in both countries.
The talks are being held
under the auspices of the
Anglo-Israel Joint Eco-
nomic Commission, an
inter-governmental panel
which meets annually.
Moshe Semadar, head of
the Israeli delegation, said
that Israel wanted the crea-
tion of a special framework,
to foster joint research and
development in industry,
agriculture and in medical
equipment. Areas of special
interest to Israel, he said,
were robotics, engineering,
telemetry and computer
hardware and software.
