Nshei Chabad, the

children's Shabat
Candlelightines Campaign

Vaad Updates
Kashrut Emblem

The Vaad Horabonim —
Council of Orthodox Rabbis
of Greater Detroit has up-
dated its kashrut symbol.
The previous symbol, the
COR, is now superimposed
over a "k," delineating the
rabbis new kashrut certifi-
cation emblem.
The Vaad has given kash-
rut certification to Ver-
nors and Vernors One-Cal
ginger ale. Although the
symbol does not yet appear
on the product, cans and
bottles currently on super-
market shelves are ap-
proved by the Vaad.
Honey from Bee-My-
Honey Co. has received
kosher certification from
the Vaad. The various types
receiving the approval of
the rabbinical body include
alfalfa, buckwheat, clover,
gallberry blossom, orange
blossom, wildflower and
comb honey.

New Avon Paperback Novel
Highlights Survivor's Plight

"My Sister, My Anti-
gone," the story of a
Holocaust survivor who
confronts the guilt of sur-
viving through her obses-
sion with the mythic Greek
heroine who died for her be-
liefs is one of three Avon
paperbacks slated for publi-
cation next month.
Author Grete Weil uses
her own experiences from
World War II Europe as the
basis for this, her third
novel. The book is trans-
lated from the original
German by Krishna
Winston.

In "Regina," Leslie
Epstein, the widely
acclaimed author of
"King of the Jews," has
written a novel about the
life of an aging actress in
New York as she ponders
a return to the stage.
The third Avon January
release -is "Sergeant
Getulio," winner of Brazil's

Jabuti prize for best novel of
1983. The story was written
by Joao Ubaldo Ribeiro.
