HAMILTON PLACE • ATHLETIC & SOCIAL CLUB I IIIII Iii 46-8990 SARASOTA, Fla. (JTA) — Plans for a training pro- gram for teachers in church schools in the Sarasota area, to improve their teaching about Jews and Judaism, were approved at a two-day "Faith Without Prejudice" conference here, Rabbi A. James Rudin, di- rector of Interreligious Af- fairs of the American Jewish Committee, re- ported. Rudin said the conference attracted a "record attendance" of more than 600 participants, most of them Christians. He said the projected teacher training program, for both Protestant and Catholic schools, will be or- ganized at a meeting, prob- ably in January, "hope- fully" to begin next Sep- tember. He said the AJ- Committee will be one of the plan's sponsors and that an- other sponsor will be the Sarasota Ministerial Asso- ciation. Rudin reported also that those at the confer- ence agreed to partici- pate in "Lifeline Letters," a campaign to enlist commitments for writing letters, sending holiday cards and other indica- tions of support to Soviet Jewish refusniks. Lifeline Letters is a proj- ect of Operation Lifeline, which is sponsored by the National Interreligious Task Force on Soviet Jewry and the AJCommittee. Rudin described the work of the AJCommittee in per- suading Christian educators to eliminate anti-Jewish materials from their textbooks and teach- ing programs.
