Borman Hall Receives Flag
as Gift of Jewish War Vets
The Jewish Home for
Aged's Borman Hall facility
was recently presented with
a new American flag by the
Department of Michigan
Jewish War Veterans.
The ceremonies, under
the direction of Department
Commander Al Rose, were
arranged by Home for Aged
resident and himself a
Jewish war veteran, Joseph
Shapiro.
Harry Madison, past na-
tional commander of the
JWV, presented the flag,
which had been documented
as flying -over the White
House in 1981, to Stephen
Roizen, assistant director of
the Home for Aged.
The late Norman -
Berkley, department
commander at the time of
his death, had initiated
the project,
Also participating in the
ceremonies were: Dorothy
Cohen, president of the De-
partment of Michigan Aux-
iliary; Shirley Sontag, de-
partment patriotic in-
structress; Bill Greenberg
of the national executive
committee; Marvin Revich,
Silverman-Detroit Post
commander; Eli Katz,
junior vice commander, De-
partment of Michigan;
Henry Seligman; Leon
Riker, member,
Silverman-Detroit; and Ar-
nold Manko, senior vice
commander of the JWV.

Anti-Israel Bias
in-the Media
anywhere the number of
people that does the TV or
daily papers.
The slanting of news to
the disfavor of Israel is
being re-awakened by such
comments as made by Mr.
Chancellor and I am deeply
concerned with the surfac-
ing of these distortions. If I
were a Christian I could
very well have been stirred
up (at listening to- this
newscast) to such point of
becoming anti-Semitic
(were I not already so).
The periodic surfacing of
this undercurrent of anti-
Semitism should somehow
be stemmed. Are there any
ways of negating or neut-
ralizing such comments to
the general public so the
people will get the true
facts?
Editor, The Jewish News:
When Prime Minister
Shamir visited Washing-
ton, D.C. recently, at which
time certain benefits were
approved for Israel, on a
televised newscast pre-
sented by John Chancellor
on the NBC network, Mr.
Chancellor falsely informed
the viewers that these bene-
fits (their tax money) were
being "bestowed" on Israel,
yet the United States is get-
ting nothing in return.
He made it a point of mis-
informing the viewers as
follows: this was only being
done because 1984 is an
election year and it is politi-
cally expedient for our
President to "hang onto" the
Mrs. Betty Harrison
Jewish vote; that the Jews
are very influential in
Washington.
The writer is quite aware Shekel Plunges
how the media slanted and to One Cent
distorted the news at the
JERUSALEM (JTA) —
time Israel had need to in-
vade Lebanon. At no time, The shekel is now equal in
that I know of, have these value to one U.S. cent. The
distortions and misstate- currency plunged through
ments been retracted pub- the "cent barrier" Tuesday.
Economists calculated
licly. It's too bad that the
only responsible journalism that in the six years of
to be had is from what one Likud rule, Israel's cur-
can read in the Wall Street rency has depreciated by 99
Journal and certainly this percent relative to the U.S.
paper does not nearly reach dollar.
