Dancer Wendy Shifrin
will return to Detroit to
teach at the Jewish Com-
munity Center's Winter
Dance Extravaganza Dec.
28-30 at the Jimmy Prentis
Morris Branch of the Cen-
ter. A special New Year's
Eve performance will take
place 8:30 p.m. Dec. 31.
Miss Shifrin specializes
in body alignment, a
method for reducing stress
and tension. She will teach
two classes in "Posture Im-
provement Through Correc-
tive Exercise" at 8 p.m. Dec.
28 and 29.
At 10 a.m. Dec. 28, 29 and
30, Miss Shifrin will teach
"Dance in a Chair," a spe-
cial exercise program for
senior adults.
A member of the Nancy
Meehan Co. who per-
forms her own choreog-
raphy as well, Miss Shif-
rin also will conduct a
technical skill class for
students in grades six-
nine at 1:30 p.m. Dec.
28-30.
Miss Shifrin will be joined

Israeli Art
Eichibit at Center

"In the Beginning," an
exhibit of Israeli art is on
display now through Dec. 18
at the main Jewish Com-
munity Center.
Among the artists whose
works are represented in
the exhibit are: Yaacov Hel-
ler, Frank Meisler and
Zechuchan of Jerusalem.
Born and educated in
Cleveland, Heller emi-
grated to Israel in 1972. He
began at Kibutz Urim
where he designed jewelry,
then worked from his home
and later moved to the
House of Quality in
Jerusalem. In September
1977, he opened Studio 2 in
Jerusalem, which houses a
modern gallery and work-
shop. In 1974, then Prime
Minister Yitzhak Rabin
presented former U.S.
president Gerald Ford with
a Heller sculpture.
Meisler's metal
sculptures have been
commissioned by the Is-
rael government to be
given as gifts to foreign

dignitaries.

human relations agencies
this week asked the U.S.
Supreme Court to overrule
a Florida court decision that
denied a white mother cus-
tody of her seven-year-old
daughter following the
woman's remarriage to a
black man.
In an amici curiae
(friends-of-the-court) brief
filed with the high court,
the Anti-Defamation
League of Bnai Brith, the
American Jewish Congress,
the Washington Lawyers'
Committee for Civil Rights
under Law and the Chil-
dren's Defense Fund de-
clared that it was uncon-
stitutional to deny Linda
Sidoti Palmore of Tampa,.
Fla. custody of her child sol-
ely on the basis of race.

'Magic of Music' •

The senior adult depart-
ment of the Jewish Com-
munity Center will present
"The Magic of Music" at 2
p.m. Dec. 18 at the Jimmy
Prentis Morris Branch of
the Center.
The cabaret-style pro-
gram will feature soprano
Ruth Savage, baritone Sid-
ney Resnick, "The Center
Charmers" accompanied by
Lillian Zellman and Israeli
dancers Eunice Whitaker,
Helga Gold and Robert
Neveux.
Tickets are
at a
nominal charge at the Cen-
ter office. The public is in-
vited.

Volunteers Help
Serve Senior Lunch

Senior adults age 60 and
up are eligible to participate
in the federally-funded
kosher lunch program of-
fered at the Jimmy. Prentis
Morris Branch of the Jewish
Community Center.
Lunches are served at
noon Monday through Fri-
day at the Morris Branch.
Persons interested in par-
ticipating should register
for a lunch card at the Mor-
ris Branch. On the days
they would like to have
lunch at the Morris Branch,
seniors should register by
10 a.m.
Volunteers who .help
serve • the lunches are: Eve
Newman, Shirley Shiovitz,
Harry Shiovitz, Jean Seid
(site- manager), Libby
Konikow, Ruth Coblentz,
Tillie Sloan, Betty

Senior Fitness
Class Offered

"Super Senior Fitness," a
class for senior adults which
focuses on keeping fit with
exercise and proper nutri-
tion, is held 10:45 a.m.
Wednesdays at the Morris
Branch of the Center.
The class is directed by
Ada Bandalene, supervisor
of the Morris Branch physi-
cal education department,
and by Bruce Landgarten,
director of the Center Men's
Health Club. A physician
also is available to monitor
blood pressure.
