Israel Objects
to UN Plan to
Rescue Arafat

Re-Opening Soon

FRANKLIN KOSHER MEATS

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Israel registered strong ob-
jections to a United Nations
plan to evacuate Palestine
Liberation Organization
chief Yasir Arafat and his
supporters from Tripoli in
northern Lebanon where
they are under seige by
Syrian-backed PLO dissi-
dents.
The plan to rescue Arafat
by sea, aboard a vessel fly-
ing the UN flag, was ap-
proved unanimously by the
Security Council. The mat-
ter was discussed at Sun-
day's Cabinet meeting here.
Nevertheless, Cabinet
Secretary Dan Meridor told
reporters later that "It is not
the UN's role to transfer a
band of terrorists from one
place to which they have
brought death and destruc-
tion to another place from
which they intend to con-
tinue to sow death and de-
struction."
Energy Minister Yitzhak
Modai reportedly urged the
Cabinet to authorize an Is-
raeli effort to capture
Arafat and his chief hen-
chmen. But sources close to
Modai said he was not prop-
osing that Israel assault a
UN ship, but that it should
act before Arafat boarded
the vessel. It was not clear
what Modai thought Israel
should do with Arafat in the
event he was captured.

New Investigation Is Sought

JERUSALEM (JTA) — A
Labor MK has called for re-
placement of the special
police team investigating
the murder of Peace Now
activist Emil Grunzweig
because it has produced no
substantial clues to date.
According to Yair Tza-
ban, the police have neg-
lected possibly vital evi-
dence and "the atmosphere
surrounding the investiga-
tion is poor."
Grunzweig, a 33-year-old
teacher, was killed last Feb.
10 by a hand grenade
thrown at a group of Peace
Now demonstrators outside
the Prime Ministers Office.
The Cabinet, at the
time, was debating the
recommendations of the
Kahan Commission
which had found several
ranking military officers
and top government offi-
cials, notably then De-
fense Minister Ariel Sha-
ron, indirectly responsi-
ble for the massacre of
Palestinian civilians by
Christian Phalangists in
the Sabra and Shatila
camps in west Beirut in
September 1982.
In a letter to Interior
Minister'Yosef Burg, who is
in charge of the police, Tza-
ban urged that the Knesset
committee which super-
vises the secret service be
allowed to review the evi-
dence compiled so far by the
investigating team. He
noted that in previous cases
