Cantor Sherwood Goffin

nial dinner for Mr. and Mrs.
Hy (Dolores) Brown at 5:30
p.m. Sunday at Young Is-
rael of Oak-Woods.
Cantor Goffin has ap-
peared in concert through
the U.S., where he has per-
formed Hasidic, Israeli and
Yiddish folksongs. He has
recorded three record al-
bums, and has written more
than 100 pieces.
Cantor Goffin has been
the cantor of the Lincoln
Square Synagogue for the
past 18 years.

Party Sunday

Reservations are still

David's Hanuka latke party
to be held 7 p.m. Sunday in
the synagogue, sponsored
by the sisterhood and men's
club.
Cantor Hyman Adler and
the sisterhood choir will
sing Hanuka songs and
light the menora.
Entertainment will be pro-
vided by flutist Nikolai
Lemberg, pianist Ludmila
Mulyutina Lemberg and by
violinist Inna Nedorezov.
There is a nominal charge
and everyone is welcome.

Merkaz Hosts Melave Malka

The Merkaz, the layman's
association of the Vaad
Horabonim, announces that
its third annual melave
malka will take place on
Dec. 17 at 8:30 p.m. at
Young Israel of Oak-Woods.
The Merkaz assists the
Vaad in retaining a full-
time kashrut administrator
to oversee supervision of
products, caterers and
kosher food establishments.
It publishes the Kosher-
Gram newsletter and re-
searches and answers con-
sumer phone inquiries.
The Merkaz encourages
local merchants to provide
more kosher products and
services to the community
and works closely with
Jewish day and afternoon
schools by providing them
with educational materials
and programs.

The melave malka will
;eature Rabbi Menahem
Genack, national rab-
binic director of the
Union of Orthodox
Jewish Congregations of
America,- Kashrut Divi-
sion. He is the former
dean of the kollel at
Touro College in New
York and author of
"Sefer Birchas
Yitzchok," a legal treatise
on Sanhedrin.
