NEW YORK — Students
at ORT-Israel's Bat Yam
school who are specializing
in tourism trades recently
completed a highly suc-
cessful study tour of Italy,
which included a visit to
ORT-Milan.
Gert White, new national
president of Women's
American ORT, said that
the preparation for the tour
included an in-depth course
in Italian geography and
history, which included the
history of the Jewish com-
munities in that country.
She stated, "Everything
the young people did on the
trip was linked to their
studies, so that even order-
ing a meal became in and of
itself a lesson. Participants
had to study the location of
service stations and restau-
rants on the autostrada, to
analyze guided tours and to
rate the effectiveness of tour
guides.
"They had to compare the
service in large and small
hotels, assess the best way
of reaching places of inter-
est and select the best
means of transportation.
They also had to describe
shopping centers and
tourist attractions."
Mrs. White said that on
the way back to Israel, the
group stopped over in
Athens and toured the city.
"Even there," she said, "the
participants were not
allowed to relax but had to
compare the service in the
airport and on the airlines
with previous experiences."

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
President Chaim Herzog of
Israel will leave shortly for
visits to Zaire, Liberia and
Swaziland, it was learned
Wednesday. Zaire and
Liberia recently restored
diplomatic relations with
Israel which were broken by
28 black African states after
the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
Samuel Pearson,
Liberia's first ambassador
to Israel in a decade, pre-
sented his credentials to
Herzog on Wednesday. He
told reporters his embassy
would be in Tel Aviv. When
President Samuel Doe of
Liberia visited Israel last
August, he said the em-
bassy would be established
in Jerusalem.

JERUSALEM — The ef-
fectiveness of the
vocational-technical high
school system in Israel was
the subject of a symposium
last month at Hebrew Uni-
versity in Jerusalem.
Despite the many pro-
grams that are directed
with some success toward
disadvantaged youths in
the country, there has been
a failure to do much for dis-
advantaged Israeli adults,
Dr. David Harman, chief
scientist for the American
Jewish Joint Distribution
Committee said.

Overseas
calling
is getting
better by
the minute.

For example, between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., the initial minute of a
direct-dialed call to Tel Aviv costs only $2.21*— additional minutes
are 80 cents* each. These same low rates apply to all other Israeli cities.
If your telephone exchange isn't presently equipped for international
dialing, you still get the same low rate on station-to-station calls placed
through an operator. Overseas dialing— it's easy...it's inexpensive...
it's fast! And the sound of your voice is so much more personal than
a letter or telegram.
