JNF 'Green Sunday Week'

The Detroit affiliate of
the Jewish National Fund
will participate in the in-
ternational organization's
Green Sunday Week to be
observed beginning Dec. 11.
The observance includes
a nationwide phone-a-thon,

the goal of which is to add
acres of new forests to the
more than 200 million trees
already planted in Israel by
the JNF since its inception
in 1901.
To volunteer, call the

FRANK CHURCH

and his wife Aviva. Section
co-chairmen are Graham A.
Orley and Joseph H. Orley.
Church, who served four
terms in the U.S. Senate,
has been a staunch suppor-
ter of Israel. In his first
major address as chairman
of the Senate Foreign Rela-
tions Committee, Church
was outspoken in his criti-
cism of the Carter Ad-
ministration's sale of F-15
fighter planes to Saudi
Arabia.
A Phi Beta Kappa law
graduate of Stanford
University, Church
joined the Senate in 1957.
At age 32, he was the
youngest Senator then
serving. Since then, he
has fought for more re-
sponsible and accounta-
ble government and has
worked energetically for -
the rights of aging per-
sons.
Church was chairman of
the Senate Subcommittee
on Energy Research and
Development and managed
the Senate legislation that
created the National Wil-
derness System in 1964, as
well as the legislation es-
tablishing the Land and
Water Conservation Fund.

Leah Harris

The Jewish Welfare Fed-
eration Women's Division
Pre-Campaign ($700) Sec-
tion will present guest
speaker Leah Harris at a
gathering 12:30 p.m. Wed-
nesday at the home of
Florine Mark Ross.
Mrs. Harris, a native Is-
raeli, met her future hus-
band, an American, in the
Hagana, where they both
served during Israel's War
of Independence.
They lived in Israel until
1955, when Leah, her hus-
band and three children
came to the United States to
live. She has been an active
member of the United
Jewish Appeal Women's
Division, and she is former
chairman of the Israelis in
the New York Division of

The Jewish Historical
Society of Michigan will
have its semi-annual lunc-
heon meeting noon Dec. 4 at
Cong. Beth Achim.
Guest speaker will be
Prof. David L. Lewis of the
graduate school of business
administration at the Uni-
versity of Michigan.
Prof. Lewis is a member of
the Jewish Historical Soci-
ety and the author of "The
Public Image of Henry
Ford." He will speak on
"Henry Ford's Anti-
Semitism and Its Repercus-
sions."

Dr. Feinberg, Mrs. Dunsky
Will Chair Super Sunday

Dr. Paul C. Feinberg and
Harriet M. Dunsky have
been named chairmen of the
1994 Allied Jewish Cam-
paign's Super Sunday tele-
phone appeal.
Set for Jan. 15 at the Un-
ited Hebrew Schools in
Southfield, the annual
event will reach thousands
of homes in the metropoli-
tan area. Several hundred
volunteers will be calling
contributors for the Cam-
paign's 60 human service
beneficiaries locally, in Is-
rael and overseas.
Dr. Feinberg, who was a
1983 Super Sunday chair-
man, has been involved in
several areas of the Cam-
paign for a number of years.
He is a former chairman of
the Professional Health Di-
vision and was a pre-
Campaign vice chairman,
as well as a member of the
Campaign Management
Committee.
A member of the
Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion Board of Governors,
Dr. Feinberg is the as-
sociate chairman of its
National and Community
Relations

division, and is a member
of the Culture and Edu-
cation Division. The pres-
ident of the United Heb-
rew Schools, he also sits
on the board of the De-
troit Service Group. Dr.
Feinberg is an active
member of Cong.
Shaarey Zedek.
Mrs. Dunsky has played a
key role in previous years'
Super Sunday appeals,
serving as clerical chair-
man in 1983. She is board
member of the Campaign's
Women's Division and has
chaired its Phonogift tele-
phone drive. Among her
other involvements, Mrs.
Dunsky served on the re-
gistration committee for the
1983 Federation Fair.
A former board member
of the Fresh Air Society,
Mrs. Dunsky also is active
in the Sinai Guild and the
National Council of Jewish
Women. She is a long-time
member of Adat Shalom
Synagogue, having served
on its board of directors and
as vice-president of its sis-
terhood.
