For Young Men Eight to Eighty 851-3660--West Bloomfield • Mon Thins Fri 9-9 Toes Wed Sat til 6 He was known as Jake the Newsboy. At 11, he sold newspapers on the streets of Chatham, Ont. where his father, a re- cent immigrant from Au- stria, owned a scrap yard. By the time he was 18, he owned the wholesale dis- tributionship that supplied the kids on Windsor street corners with newspapers to sell. Had the Horatio Alger stories been written with a Yiddish accent, the name of this boychik hero, Jake Gel- ler, would be a household word today. As it is, he is widely known and loved by many on both sides of the Detroit River — and in Is- rael as well. At 83, Geller has just received an honor bes- towed upon all too few of his generation. Paper- Jacks Ltd., the Canadian mass market paperback publishing house, has is- sued "It's Jake With Me," JAKE GELLER the autobiography of Jake Geller. Long a leader in the Windsor Jewish commun- ity, and an active particip- ant in Detroit Jewish affairs as well, Geller owned the Windsor News Co. from 1918 to 1970. An outstand- ing innovator in the field of periodical distribution. Gel- ler was also one of the pioneers in the development of the comic book in North America. All of the highlights of Geller's long humanitarian career are found in the book, including detailing of his untiring efforts on behalf of the United Jewish Appeal, the Jewish National Fund, the sale of Israel Bonds, and the development of Hebrew University, where he is an honorary member of the board of governors. In addi- tion, Geller tells of his many contributions to the better- ment of Windsor. Geller touches upon his long-standing friendship with veteran Canadian politician and statesman Paul Martin, whose own memoirs are to be published in Canada this week. Geller also briefly touches upon his friendships with former Windsor mayor and now Canadian Senator David Croll and federal cabinet minister Herb Gray. If you're over in Windsor for dinner one night, look for "It's Jake With Me" on any news- stand. T.H. GRANT OFFERS THE MEN'S AND WOMEN'S PRESIDENT "frlroggftak k.,_ ftifitt7". es ti 0 sS!>• .
