Mansours Market brought suit in Oakland County Circuit Court after the state withdrew the market's participation in the Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children. The state claimed the market's prices for kosher foods were higher than that state guidelines allowed. But the state did not have special guidelines for kosher foods, which tend to have higher prices than the same item that is not kosher. The suit was settled in September when the state reinstated the mar- ket pending the issuance of new guidelines. The state has not notified Mansours owner, Haithem Fathi, that new criteria will be issued "to address the needs of special popula- tions."
