Brzezinski Calls U.S.-Israel
Military Ties 'Grave Mistake/

Brzezinski maintained
that "This would signify'
that Washington is aban-
doning its role as mediator
in the region to become an
engaged protagonist. The
European countries will, in
such a case, dissociate
themselves from the U.S.
and the Soviet Union will no
longer remain passive in
the face of such a coalition,"
he said.
He noted that Moscow has
kept a low profile in Leba-
non so far, even though it
backs Syria.
Brzezinski charac-
terized the existing rela-

GENEVA (JTA) — Zbig-
niew Brzezinski, who was
National Security Adviser
in the Carter Administra-
tion, believes military col-
laboration between the U.S.
and Israel in the Middle
East would be a monumen-
tal geo-political error.
He told the Swiss daily La
Tribune De Geneve that
such military collaboration
aimed at changing the ba-
lance of power in Lebanon
or to punish those responsi-
ble for terrorist acts "would
be a grave mistake on our
part."

Scott Kohl will share his
Bar Mitzva with Aleksandr
Kuperman, his Russian
twin, in absentia, at Shabat
services, 8:45 a.m. Saturday
at Cong. Beth Achim.
Aleksandr is the son of
Eduard, a mechanical en-
gineer and Eleonora, a
physicist.
The Kupermans first
applied for exit -visas to-
gether with Eleonora's pa-
rents, Shmuel and Tauba
Bratslaysky, in August
1978. Six months later, the
Bratslayskys were granted
visas, but their daughter
and family were not permit-
ted to leave the Soviet Un-
ion.
Eduard's alleged expo-
sure to classified materials
was given as the reason for
refusal. It is assumed that
the only possible obstacle to
their departure might be his
work in a military plant
