NEW YORK — The
series of economic measures
adopted by the government

weeks will improve Israel's
balance of payments and
reduce inflationary. pres-
sures. This foreCast was re-
leased in New York by the
spokesman for Israel's
Economic Mission in the
United States, Consul Uri
Oren.
However, in the short run
the measures will bring
about a temporary accelera-
tion in inflation, he said:
The principal economic
measures are the devalua-
tion of the Israel Shekel
against the U.S. Dollar, a 50
percent reduction in the
level of the government's
subsidization of basic goods
and services, and a further
drastic cut in the govern-
ment budget, amounting to
the equivalent of $1 billion
out of the $21.5 billion for
the year ending March 31,
1984. -
These economic measures
are intended to improve Is-
rael's balance of payments
by increasing its exports
and reducing its imports for
current consumption. The

valuation of the Shekel has

cent over the last month.
