The organization col- lected more than 3,000 Yid- dish volumes and shipped them to the national center as part of a nationwide drive; More than 200,000 Yiddish books have been collected nationally. In October, book center executive director Aaron Lansky spoke in Detroit at a Sholem Aleichem oneg Shabat, describing the revi- val of Yiddish in the U.S. and the work of the Na- tional Yiddish Book Center. The oneg was followed on Sunday morning with a "packing party," in which the Detroit vol- umes were prepared for shipment. Volunteers in- cluded Molly Kaplansky, Bernard Friedman, Bet- te and Herb Schein, David Moskovitz, Rose Roth and Mildred Young. Sholem Aleichem In- stitute is continuing to col- lect Yiddish books for the center. For information, call President Bette Schein, 553-7040.
