I The Best of Everything

HERE'S SOMETHING

you can believe . . . even if it
doesn't sound true . . . Im-
agine a restaurant where
everything on the menu .. .
even sandwiches . . . in-
cludes 25-foot all-you-can-
eat soup, salad and dessert
bar with over 60 items.
This is Western Stockade
Family Restaurant on E.
Nine Mile just west of John
R. and 1-75 in Ferndale .. .
with a welcomed concept for
people who want to eat
hearty and wholesome .. .
at very low prices . . . Vol-
ume is no doubt the thing at
Western Stockade.
That big blonde-wood
soup, salad and dessert bar
with plexi-glass sneeze
guard all around . . . and
fresh goodies, is called an
Everybody's Every Wish .. .
and going over very big.

Imagine children
under 10 and seniors 60
and over eating for $1.99
... and getting the soup,
salad and dessert bar (by
itself $2.49) at no charge
. . . That's like putting 50
cents in their pockets.

L

Or having a Western
Stockade Burger ($2.89)
that comes out to cost only
40 cents . . . or the Philadel-
phia Steak Sandwich with
cheese and grilled onions
($3.89) really costing just
$1.40 . . . Veal Cutlet at
$2.89 actually costs but 40
cents!
The way people figure
who go to Western Stockade
on Nine Mile in Ferndale is
that whatever they order is
minus $2.49 for the soup
(two of them), salad and
dessert bar . . . Regular
menu prices are charbroiled
T-bone, $4.79; charbroiled
extra cut super sirloin,
$4.99; sirloin tips, $4.49;
steak fingers, $3.99; ribeye,
$3.99; chop steak, $3.59;
barbecue rib tips, $4.99;
chicken fingers (strips of
white meat), $4.29; liver
and onions, $3.89; country
fried steak, $2.99; Monterey
charbroiled chicken breast,
$4.49; New York strip and
teriyaki steak both $4.99
. . . and even Chimichanga
(deep fried burrito and
chunky beef topped with
cheese, jalapeno peppers,
taco sauce and sour cream),
$4.49.
People get plenty. of exer-
cise going back for more at
very, very far from skimpy
soup, salad and dessert bar
. . . Like one customer re-
marked to me, "It's the
biggest value in town."

THE DETROIT. JEWISH NEWS

Wife Carol, an administra-
tive assistant in engineer-
ing at Burroughs, did the
decorating ... wisely keep-
ing it to a simple decor .. .
with all tables, whirling
ceiling fans, Old West post-
ers and artifacts and huge
blonde wood soup, salad and
dessert bar that takes a
back seat to none . . . with
everything on it made right
at the premises . . . Steve
says his produce bill is big-
ger than his meat bill.
This is really quite a place
. People ordering just a
sandwich get a potato, too
. . . Customers come in all
day long . . . and the turn-
over is fast . . . But if there's
a wait, it's well worth the
time.

coupons more than pays for
the $19.95 book . . . It's
twice as big as last year, but
doesn't look it . . . Four
coupons are on page instead
of two . . . Another big thing
is not having to stay at a
hotel (this section has been
increased 50 percent) and
eating elsewhere . . . Hotel
dining is also included.
Best of all, however, for
groups, is the fund raising
deal . . . nothing to lose is
quite an attraction.

All Western Stockade
family restaurants (10 of
them so far) are individu-
ally owned.
The one on Nine Mile,
west of John R in Ferndale,
opened Sept. 26 of this year,
is owned by Steve Weitz .. .
and seats around 135 in a
wide-open atmosphere .. .

About the dry cleaning, a
half-dozen coupons at over
50 locations give 50 percent
off entire dry cleaning bill
. . . What Jax Kar Wash
started is again in this
year's book . . . plus many
other new car washes.
Using either the dry
cleaning or car wash

Etc., Etc., Etc., Etc.. Etc.. Etc.

THE TURN OF THE

Familiar faces of people
who wanted to keep this
place a secret for them-
selves sort of said, "Well,
that's it!" when they saw me
. . . but they should have
known that a good thing
like Steve Weitz's Western
Stockade on W. Nine Mile
can be hidden for just so
long.
TO GIVE YOU an idea of
how time flies . . . Stage &
Co. on the Boardwalk, Or-
chard Lake Rd. south of
Maple, is already a year old.
LOOK FOR A soup,
salad and sandwich opera-
tion to open on Greenfield
just south of Nine Mile .. .
It'll be Drake's Salad Bar
Restaurant, seating about
146.

Something new always
seems to crop up in the
books ... This year is the
first with dry cleaning
coupons, many with no
limit ... plus free Weight
Watchers registration fee
... and first time for Fit-
nesse exercise ... Also
more restaurants, includ-
ing LaFontaine and
Crabbie Joe's.
