Bombing Raid Revenges Tyre
TEL AVIV (JTA) — Is-
rael Air Force planes on
Wednesday bombed two
bases of pro-Iranian ter-
rorists in south Lebanon at
which suicide bombers had
been trained for attacks
such as those on IDF sec-
urity headquarters in Tyre
earlier this month, and be-
fore that on U.S. Marines
and French Legionnaires of
the multinational force in
Beirut.

Israel Tourism
Reported Up
NEW YORK — Israel's
Ministry of Tourism pro-
jects that 1983 will prove to
be the best year ever for
tourism to Israel, an-
nounced Moshe Shoshani,
Israel's new commissioner
for tourism to North
America.
"Despite Israel's many
problems, the tourism
statistics are very en-
couraging," explained
Shoshani. A total of 44 per-
cent more Americans vis-
ited Israel in August 1983
(over the same month of
1982); for the whole year
(January through August),
American tourism is up 16
percent, which projected
over the full year, would
mean a total of 320,000
Americans visiting the
country, passing the previ-
ous record of 298,000, set in
1978.

were described as bases of
the "Guardians of the Ira-
nian Revolution" move-
ment and the Shiite Moslem
pro-Iranian group headed
by Hussein Mrussawi, who
was said to have been in the
area at the time of the at-
tack. Both bases and camp
areas were said to have been
destroyed completely.
spokesman John Hughes re-
fused to comment on the Is-
raeli raid, but another
source said it may-lessen the
U.S. need to retaliate. Sec-
retary of State George
Shultz said Monday the
U.S. will no longer comment
on retaliation.
ORIENTAL
RUGS
Officials suggested that
the IDF had held off re-
taliating, waiting for a
possible American ac-
tion. The United States
was reported to have
asked Israel to pinpoint
such bases. But when the
Americans failed to act,
the Israel Air Force was
ordered in.
