Major Designers Represented
at Israel Fashion Show Nov. 18

A striking collection of
designer clothes, fashioned
for the beach, playtime, af-
ternoon wear, cocktails and
eveningwear, will be pre-
sented at the all-Israel
Fashion Festival and
Brunch to be held at Adat
Shalom Synagogue 10 a.m.
next Friday under the spon-
sorship of the Metro Detroit
Women's Division of Israel
Bonds.
Participation is by a
minimum $500 Bond or
Certificate purchase in
1983. The show is touring
the United States and
Canada, with presentations
in over 60 major cities.
Among the prominent de-

signers featured is Gideon
Oberson, a unique figure in
the rarified world of high
fashion. His rapid rise as Is-
rael's leading designer
came in the mid-1960s, very
soon after he came on the
fashion scene. His work
caught on quickly, and he
became a popular designer
as well as a consultant for
many of Israel's important
apparel firms. He designed
the uniforms for El Al Air-
lines as well as costumes for
plays and ballets.
A former student of ar-
chitecture and ballet, he
studied in a top flight
French fashion academy.

factory-showroom in Tel
Aviv's fashionable northern
district, his swim and
beachwear sales have
grown tremendously in only
three years of distribution
to the U.S. and Europe. His
name is also on playwear,
sweatshirts and T-shirts,
eyeglasses and sheets, as
well as stunning cocktail
and evening wear.

A designer who is now
counted among the high
fasion elite is Lisa Boker.
She is entirely self-
taught, having had no
training in sketching,
cutting or sewing. Play-
ing with paper and fab-
ric, she develops a con-
cept and then sees it
through. She came to the
public's attention when
she created the outfits
worn by "Hakol Over
Habibi" when the group
represented Israel in the
Eurovision contest sev-
eral years ago.

Since then, she has been
much sought after by
women - and occasionally
men - who want to dress
just a little differntly from
everybody else.
In the Israel Bond Fash-
ion Festival, Lisa Boker's
designs are seen both in
casual afternoon wear and
in dramatic, elegant eve-
ning wear. The last gown in
the show is a stunning two-
piece long black velvet skirt
topped by a slate blue or-
ganza bodice with elbow-
length puffed sleeves.
• Boker and Oberson are
two of four haute couture
designers and 11 ready-to-
wear collections appearing
in the show.
Proceeds from the sale of
Israel Bonds will help fi-
nance industrial and ag-
ricultural projects, the
building of Israel's infras-
tructure, the expansion of
communications and trans,
portation and the search
for new sources of energy.
The Israel Bond Organiza-
tion has provided over $6
billion for these purposes
since it • was founded in
1951.

Col. Dalia Raz, im-
mediate past commander
of the Women's Corps of
the Israel Defense
Forces, will be a special
guest.

Linda Bloch is fashion
show chairman. The show
will be staged and acces-
sorized by Linda Dresner.
For information regard-
ing the show, call Israel
Bonds, 557-2900.
