The following article
about Kushner appeared in
a Lions' game program in
1937:
"Abe Kushner, trainer of
the Lions, is the youngest
head trainer of any major
athletic organization in the
country. What's more, he is
a good one.
"Kushner came into the
Lions' fold back in 1934,
the year the franchise
was moved to Detroit
from Portsmouth, Ohio.
He came as an equipment
boy, without any pay. In
the short space of nine
months Kushner moved
into the position of head
trainer.
"He constantly refers to
the members of the team as
'the boys.' Despite his
youth, no person could ad-
minister to the aches and
pains the players receive in
better fashion than does
Abe. He is on call at all
hours of day and night. He
watches over hissquad with
the vigilance of a worried
parent. He treats veteran
and recruit alike.
"Kushner is destined to
go a long way in his profes-
sion. This, at least, is the
opinion of newspaper men
who cover other major ath-
letic activities around the
nation. He is constantly
looking into modern train-
ing methods that will bene-
fit both himself and the
club. He spends as much
time buying a roll of gauze
bandage as he does 10 dozen
pairs of shoes. He is on the
lookout, ever, for equipment
that will help improve his
team or prevent injuries.
"Away from work, Kush-
ner is a mimic of the first
rank. The Marx Brothers,
Lou Holtz and John Barry-
more are a few of the studies
he does with excellent por-
trayal. Has a fine sense of
humor. Enjoys good books.
"If there is such a thing as
the title of 'a valued
member,' it belongs to
Lions' trainer Abe Kush-
ner."

According to "The Jewish
Almanac," the Crown Fam-
ily of Chicago, Ill., is one of
America's 10 wealthiest
Jewish families. The family
empire includes 15 percent.
of Genral Dynamics Corp.,
seven percent of Hilton
Hotels, four percent of Es-
mark, 17 percent of the St.
Louis and San Francisco
Railway, stock in some 300
other companies, real estate
and family-owned operat-
ing companies. One son,
Lester Crown, owns inter-
ests in the Chicago Bulls.
