Divorce Rate
Hits 8 Percent
in Israel

JERUSALEM (JNI) —
Unless current trends shift,
eight out of every 100 mar-
riages celebrated in Israel
this year will end in divorce
within 10 years, according
to the new Statistical Year-
book.
The yearbook reported
that newlywed divorces
(within 24 months) are
dropping, although children
are apparently playing a
gradually diminishing role
in discouraging divorce.
Sixty-four percent of the
4,200 Jewish couples who
were divorced in 1981 had
children.
