Israel Bond Chief Optimistic About His Country's Economy
Yehuda Halevy, who has
just assumed presidential
and chief executive leader-
ship of the Israel Bond
Organization, on a world
scale, stated on his initial
visit here that "the Israel
economy is under control."
Addressing some 65
members of the committee
planning the Cong. Shaarey
Zedek Israel Bond dinner
Nov. 18 in honor of Ivan
Bloch, Halevy qualified his
statement with emphasis on
present approaches for ful-
lest cooperation by the
people of Israel to solve the
problems that created the
economic issues.
Speaking at the home of
David and Doreen Herme-
lin on Monday, he stated
that "tightening the belts,"
reducing subsidies as
measures of economy, ob-
viating financial obliga-
tions on a cooperative,
nationwide basis will be "a
must" in Israel's current
aims.
On this score, he said that
one of the means of prevent-
ing a continuing Israel
yerida, an exodus from the
country, is to assure con-
tinuing employment. He
especially emphasized that
if skilled workers leave his
country it will be menacing
on a high level, and he as-
sured the gathering that all
efforts will be in connection
with treating the economic
problem to curb yerida.
