there are dissenting

His emphasis was on the
fact that Arabs and Jews do
live in harmony in Israel,
that the 17 percent of Arabs
who form an important
element in the population
are not destructive and that
they share citizenship. He
insisted this is applicable to
Judea and Samaria.
He chose to correct -a
statement by President
Reagan in his recent press
conference when he said
that Syria claims parts of
Lebanon and Jordan to be
considered belonging to a
Greater Syria. Katz warned
that what Syria claims is
that all of Lebanon, Jordan
and also Israel are part of a
Greater Syria and that the
implied danger should be
viewed on such a basis.
His warning was for vigi-
lance in viewing Syria as a
major danger to the peace of
the entire Middle East.

JDC Initiates
Foster Care
for Elderly

JERUSALEM — Foster
homes are being studied as
a possible alternative to
nursing homes or other
forms of institutional care
for Israel's aged, according
to a report by The American
Jewish Joint Distribution
Committee (JDC) Brook-
dale Institute of Gerontol-
ogy and Adult Human De-
velopment.
The instjtue is directing a
pilot project under the au-
spices of the Israel Ministry
of Labor and Social Affairs.
Under the program, a fos-
ter family recognized by the
Ministry receives 13,000
shekels ($145) a month for
each elderly man or woman
under its care. For this the
foster family is expected to
provide room and board,
laundry service, and help
with bathing and dressing if
needed. They are also ex-
pected to accompany the
residents to doctors for med-
ical checkups and provide
them with the warmth and
affection of a family home.

you will be a water-carrier
