Dr. Robert Ross

Joel Saxe, an assistant at-
torney, city of Southfield,
died Oct. 22 at age 37.
A native Detroiter, Mr.
Saxe was previously the
Genesee County prosecutor
for 10 years.
He was spelling bee
champion and runner-up
eight times. He was
graduated from the Univer-
sity of Michigan and its
school of law. He argued
cases in the Appellate Di-
vision of the Michigan Sup-
reme Court and worked
with the Southfield Police
conductng seminars . on
legal issues.
Mr. 1Saxe was the Michi-
gan State Folksinging
Champion.
He leaves his wife, Sheri;
a son, Brian; a daughter,
Mandy Rebecca; his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry
(Reva) Saxe; and two
brothers, Albert of Au-
stralia and George of
Chelsea, Mich.

Dr. Robert J. Ross, a med-
ical doctor, died Oct. 13 at
age 38.
,A former Detroiter, Dr.
Ross resided in Eden, N.C.
He was kraduated from De-
troit's Temple Israel Reli-
gious School and Wayne
State University, and held a
medical degree from Emory
University Medical School.
He was a member of the
American Medical Associa-
tion and served a tour of
duty in Vietnam as a cap-
tain in the Marine Corps.

Jessica Savitch,
Companion Die
in Car Crash

NEW YORK — NBC
News broadcaster Jessica
Savitch died Sunday when
the car in which she was rid-
ing plunged into a canal,
killing both her and a com-
panion, Martin M. Fisch-
bein, vice president, assis-
tant general manager and
circulation and personnel
director of the New York
Post. Miss Savitch was 35.
In her six years at NBC,
Miss Savitch served as the
anchor of weekend editions
of the Nightly News nad
NBC News Digests, and
made frequent appearances
on Meet the Press and the
Today Show. She also
worked as a correspondent
in Washington, reported on
the 1980 Presidential cam-
paign and was the anchor of
a PBS documentary series,
"Frontline."
