SUNDAY 12 4 - Stew Recipe By NORMA-BARACH (Copyright 1983, JTA, Inc.) 3 lbs. boneless chuck, cut into 1-inch cubes 6 tbsps. corn oil 2 large onions, diced 1/2 tsp thyme 2 tbsps. flour 3 tbsps. ketchup 1 bay leaf 1/2 tsp. white pepper . 1 1h tsps. salt 11/2 cups dry white wine 1 20 - oz. can pear halves 1 1 - lb. can sweet potatoes 1 /2 lb. cooked acorn squash Brown meat and onions in hot oil in an 8-qt. Dutch oven. Remove meat. Mix all spices, ketchup, flour and wine and onions in pot. To this add 1 cup pear syrup. Bring all this to a boil. Add meat. Reduce to simmer. Cover pot. Cook 11/2 hours or until meat is tender. Add drained sweet potatoes, drained pears and cooked squash. Cook 10 more min- utes or until hot. Serves 8.
