THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS
Israel-Born Cellist to Play
Danny Raskin's
LISTENING
POST
DEDICATION IN the
medical profession is a won-
derful thing . . . and nothing
like instilling of confidence
within patients . . . I had the
extreme pleasure of meet-
ing such a doctor . . . happily
so on a social visit . . . There
are certainly more in
medicine, of which folks can
be very thankful.
Dr. Manuel Dujovny, di-
rector of the neurosurgical
research laboratory and on
the staff at Henry Ford
Hospital, W. Grand Blvd., is
not only among these giants
in his profession, but one of
a five-man team at Ford
. . . the country's only hopsi-
tal doing vascular recon-
struction of deep brain ar-
teries . . . chaired by Dr.
James Ausman.
Big thing, too, says Dr.
Dujoyny, is that age is no
barrier . . . An 84-year-old
woman he recently operated
on was released from the
hospital . . . and others in
the latter years of life have
been recipients of his suc-
. cess . . . "The mind is a won-
derful thing," says Dr.
Dujovny, "and a will to live
can do wonders."
He was born in Argen-
tina . . . and has been here
10 years from Israel .. .
receiving all his training
at the Beilinson Hospital,
affiliated with Tel Aviv
University, where Dr.
Dujovny was a staff
neurosurgeon.
Before coming to Henry
Ford Hospital in January
1981, he was associate pro-
fessor at University of
Pittsburgh, site of the Vete-
rans Administration Hospi-
tal there, serving as chief of
neurosurgery.
Nothing greater . . . for
sure . . . than saving
people's lives!
CON-
BELATED
GRATS ... to Sarah and
Harry Friedman . . . who
don't have to wait before
giving each other birthday
presents . . . Both were born
on the same day.
THE LARGE HOME
. . . of Kathy and Manny
Foner was like a three-part
engagement party for
Elaine Kahrnoff and Mort
Baker, who'll be wed March
3 . . . The 45 people split into
three rooms . . . computer
area for the serious . . . liv-
ing room for fun talk . . . and
family room where the "in"
people took over with much
frivolity.
ALL 30 MERCHANTS
and most of help will be
dressed in costume . . . to-
morrow . . . at Applegate
Square, Northwestern
Highway between 12 and 13
Mile . . . with some serving
cider and donuts, too .. .
plus displaying pumpkins
. . . It'll be a fun thing at this
sophisticated shopping cen-
ter.
The Petite Prince French
Bakery of Birmingham will
open its second place at
Applegate Square . . . tak-
ing over Baker's Loaf spot
. . . Petite Prince owners are
here only a few years from
France.
"THE TOY" film for-
merly at movie houses and
now on October cable, star-
ring Jackie Gleason and
Richard Pryor, also intro-
duces Scott Schwartz as
Eric Bates . . . He is the son
of former Detroiter Danny
Schwartz . . . and nephew of
commercial window washer
wit Allen Schwartz.
Scott has done about 100
commercials . . . and his
next movie, "A Christmas
Story," will be released Nov.
11 . .. An afternoon TV spe-
cial with Robert Klein will
be released in a few months.

WONDER OF WON-
DERS . After a season of
kholm explorer who was
scaling a Himalayan peak
with a Russian companion
when a miniature snowslide
bowled them over and left
both dangling on a pre
cipice, clinging to a fragile
rope . . . "We're goners,"
groaned the Russian .. .
"Afraid of the precipice?"
gasped the Swede . . . "No
the rope," said the Russian.
"My factory made it."

Dec. 25, 1970 ... "Susan
Kahn took daughters, Amy,
one year old, and Stacy, two,
after school hours to see
their grandmother, Frances
Weinberg, third grade
teacher at Pepper Elemen-
tary in Oak Park . . . Stacy
tore about the room empty-
ing shelves and counters
and putting Mrs. Wein-
berg's toys on the floor.
"Before leaving, one of
the other teachers came in
to see Mrs. Weinberg's
granddaughters, and as-
toundedly asked Stacy what
she was doing . . . Said the
little tot . . . 'It's my bubbie's
school!' "
Nov. 13, 1970 ... "Notic-
ing that little Adrienne was
struggling with an ear of
corn, her mother, Janne
Wisper, offered to cut off the
kernels . . . but was quickly
rebuffed when the youngs-
ter replied, 'No, I like it on
