Business Ph City Noteworthy recognition is given Cantor Adler's de- votion to efforts to strengthen friendliest ties with the non-Jewish com- munities, especially in the activities in behalf of the Detroit Round Table of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Last night's dinner marked Cantor Adler's re- tirement after 38 years with Bnai David. Synagogue president Jerome Soble sculpted a life-size bust of the cantor. Cantor Adler was born in Jerusalem in 1911 to a fam- ily of cantors. He came to America at the insistence of his father, and served as a cantor in several Zip synagogues in the east as a youngster. He came to Bnai David after serving as can- tor in an Orthodox syna- gogue in Cleveland. He has been active with the Jewish War Veterans, Mosaic Lodge, Hebrew Be- nevolent Society, Jewish Home for Aged, League of Jewish Women's Organiza- tions, Hannah Schloss Old Timers and the Cultural Group of the Jewish Com- munity Center. He was the recipient of the 1967 Shofar Award of the Jewish Boy Scouts Committee of Metropolitan Detroit. He has been cited by the NCCJ and appeared in a musical, liturgical pro- gram at Duns Scotus Catholic Seminary in Southfield. IJA Report Examines UN Racism Parley LONDON — The second World Conference on Ra- cism, which marked the closing of the United Na- tions Decade Against Ra- cism, was racked by dissen- sion and the lack of a con- sensus on Israel, according to a study published by the Institute of Jewish Affairs (IJA) earlier this month. The IJA study, authored by Dr. Stephen J. Roth, of- fers an in-depth look at the UN Decade Against Ra- cism, which began in 1973. The report explains that Is- rael and the United States boycotted both of the world conferences and that West- ern delegates who did attend made their opposi- tion to the anti-Israel line very clear. The IJA is the research arm of the World Jewish Congress. For further information please call, 352-7117 or 354-1050. Absence makes the heart j grow fonder. Cong.
