"We are a 'people who
care, and in that spirit we
elevate the standards of life
generally and assure pro-
gress for our healthy in-
stitutions, as evidenced in
the Hadassah Medical
Organization."
It was in this sense that
Dr. Shaul Feldman, head of
the department of neurol-
ogy of the Hadassah Medi-
cal Organization in
Jerusalem, brought the
message of medical accom-
plishments to Detroit
Hadassah.
In this country to attend
the Neurological Associa-
tion convention in New Or-
leans, Dr. Feldman visited
here last weekend to assist
in the inauguration of De-
troit Hadassah's annual
fund-raising campaign. He
spoke to a group of Hadas-
sah leaders Oct. 13 at a
dinner at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. David Hermelin,

presided over by Mrs. David
Frank. Mrs. Emery Klein,
Detroit Hadassah
president, greeted the
gathering.
For more than 30 years
in a leading capacity in
Hadassah medical ranks,
having served from 1977
to 1981, as dean of the
Hadassah Medical
School, Dr. Feldman de-
scribed the advances
which raised the school
and hospital services to
highest ranks in the
world.
Describing the many
services in the Jerusalem
medical sphere, Dr.
Feldman said that a sense of
gratitude for aid provided
has been generated among
Arabs as well, with 79 per-
cent of the Arabs in Judea
and Samaria, referred to as
West Bank in the general
press, benefiting from
Hadassah's medical ex-
perts.
Dr. Feldman said that
such appreciation is not
minimal, that the reports of
violence have been greatly
exaggerated, that the eco-
nomic, cultural and health
services derived from the
Jewish sources are recog-
nized by the Arab popula-
tion.
His message emphasized
a recognition of the assis-
tance provided by the
American Hadassah women
and their supporters in
making possible continua-
tion of the services thus re-
corded. Because of the min-
imal support available from
government, American aid
is vital, he declared.
Dr. Feldman has made
numerous professional
tours of European coun-
tries, attending neurolog-
ical congresses. Com-
menting on such experi-
ences, he said he always
returned home to
Jerusalem heartened in
the knowledge that the
advances made medi-
cally in Israel are among
the most impressive.
While expressing concern
over the economic situation
and the yerida, the exodus
of some Jews from Israel,
Dr. Feldman said he was re-
turning home with feelings
of confidence that the con-
cern over Israel's progress-
ive record will emanate in
proper solutions. He was, he
said concerned about a
measure of departures, but
he viewed them as minimal.
